“Thrilling Draw Between PNG and Tahiti; Fiji Crushes Samoa in Dominant Display”
In the day’s early match, Papua New Guinea faced Tahiti. PNG aimed to recover from their heavy defeat by Fiji on the opening day, while Tahiti sought to secure a spot in the knockout stages with a win, following their victory over Samoa.
However, the match ended in a draw.
Tahiti’s Matéo Degrumelle executed a superb counter-attack, escaping the defense and chipping the ball past goalkeeper Ronald Warisan into the far corner.
PNG quickly responded, equalizing just nine minutes later. Hekari United’s Ati Kepo outmaneuvered his defender in the box and unselfishly passed to Pala Paul, who tapped the ball into the empty net.
These two first-half goals were the only scores of the match.
The final round of matches will determine which team advances, with PNG facing Samoa and Tahiti playing Fiji.
In the late game, hosts Fiji easily defeated Samoa.
Rewa FC’s Setareki Hughes scored within three minutes, cutting in from the right and shooting past Samoa’s keeper Joel Bartley. Thomas Dunn then scored with a looping header from a Hughes cross, and Roy Krishna converted a penalty he earned in stoppage time.
Fiji continued to dominate in the second half, ultimately winning 9-1.
