“Rangers Face Relocation Challenges with Hampden Park Unavailable”
Rangers will not be able to use Hampden Park as an alternative to Ibrox at the start of next season, according to Andy Newport. The Daily Record journalist revealed on X (June 20) that Hampden will be “out of commission” until September due to ongoing developments at Ibrox’s Copland Stand, which may require the team to relocate in August.
Newport’s comment was in response to a query about whether Philippe Clement’s team would move their home games to Hampden or Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium temporarily.
A series of concerts scheduled at Hampden this summer will necessitate repairs to the playing surface, prompting the Gers to seek other venues for their matches.
This Ibrox issue adds to the challenges faced by Clement and Rangers. Clement is already managing a major squad overhaul, with three new signings—Jefte, Clinton Nsiala, and returning loanee Oscar Cortes, all aged 20—coming in and more expected soon. Delaying their introductions at Ibrox could be problematic, as the unique atmosphere at Ibrox helps ease the transition for new players. Relocating to a different city for games could hinder this process.
Hampden Park, Scotland’s national football stadium in Glasgow, would have been an ideal temporary venue due to its size and location. However, Murrayfield, which is in Edinburgh and likely comes with a rental fee, is not an ideal alternative for Rangers.
