“Steve Cooper Poised to Take the Helm at Leicester City”
Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is in advanced negotiations to take over at Leicester City.
Cooper, who has been unemployed since leaving Forest in December, is a leading candidate to replace Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, according to the PA news agency.
Maresca, who led the Foxes to Premier League promotion, left to become the head coach at Chelsea after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure at the end of the season.
Cooper has been patiently waiting for a new opportunity after his emotional departure from the City Ground, where he achieved promotion to the Premier League for Forest for the first time in 23 years and kept them in the top flight.
The Leicester position comes with significant challenges, including a potential points deduction and the need to sell players over the summer to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
Graham Potter, the former manager of Chelsea and Brighton, and Carlos Corberan of West Brom were also reportedly considered for the position.
