Everton has previously hinted that sales could need to happen this summer, but they’ll probably still be conducted on their own terms even with a potential PSR fine. The biggest question mark still looming over Goodison Park is Jarrad Branthwaite’s future, and a transfer for Amadou Onana is also imminent ahead of Euro 2024.
After all, these are the club’s most marketable assets, and a team totally crippled by debt would probably fetch a hefty price for them. But Sean Dyche will probably want to make sure that a reliable replacement is available on their transfer list in case he is forced to make a significant move. Among all the players available to the 52-year-old boss, Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be the most difficult to replace if he were to go this summer.
This summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin will not be joining Chelsea. In a summer when he and Kevin Thelwell had to be astute market players, Beto and Youssef Chermiti were both used as backups for the English striker who had been plagued by persistent ailments. Their coming seemed to give some relief if those problems continued, but even once he got fit again, his form did not improve for much of the season.
And yet, none of those newcomers was able to unseat him, demonstrating how much Dyche values him. Dyche’s recognition of Calvert-Lewin’s significance to Everton must validate this idea. James Rodriguez, who actually only worked with the 27-year-old for one season, expressed his admiration for the former Sheffield United player by saying, “He’s a player always willing to score, he’s hungry to score goals.”
That’s fantastic as strikers are constantly searching for ways to score. He seems the same to me. Even though he is a very young player, he exudes ambition. He is desperate to win. I’m hoping he scores 30 goals this season. Though Calvert-Lewin did not achieve thirty goals, an outstanding sixteen Premier League goals in 2020–21 marked the beginning of a season full of potential.
Even though he only scored seven goals the previous season, his hold-up play, quickness, and unwavering pursuit make him an invaluable member of the Toffees. In terms of aerials won per ninety, he is among the top six forwards in Europe. Losing him would be devastating because neither Chermiti nor Beto are prepared to take the field and shine as consistently as he does.
