“Everton on the Brink of New Ownership by Friedkin Group”
Dan Friedkin, the current owner of Serie A’s AS Roma, is poised to finalize the takeover of Premier League club Everton, potentially as soon as Tuesday.
The American billionaire is expected to acquire a majority stake in the Merseyside club, marking the end of Farhad Moshiri’s controversial ownership.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, rumors in Liverpool suggest that other interested parties, like Vathce Manoukian, have conceded defeat and withdrawn from negotiations.
Roma fans are worried that this acquisition will shift Friedkin’s focus entirely to Everton, despite his efforts to stabilize the Italian club since his takeover in 2020.
Roma CEO Lina Souloukou recently reassured fans that Friedkin’s new venture would not compromise his ambition to elevate the Giallorossi to European powerhouse status, but these assurances have done little to alleviate tifosi concerns.
Deloitte ranked Roma as the 24th richest club in Europe at the end of the 2022-23 season, with a turnover of €214.9 million. In comparison, Everton was ranked 30th with an annual turnover of €198 million.
