Callum Wilson, a striker for Newcastle United, is entering the last year of his contract and may leave the team this summer. Due to injuries and Alexander Isak being the preferred option to lead the line, the 32-year-old striker was only able to make 12 starts for Newcastle during the 2023–24 season, although scoring 10 goals in 26 appearances. Wilson is apparently interested in looking for a fresh challenge this summer as he does not have a definite starting spot at Newcastle.
The Telegraph claims that Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Wilson, should he be sold. This summer, the 27-year-old would set you back about £25 million.
However, Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle, has previously expressed his intention to cling onto the striker. Howe previously stated, “Of course, I want [Wilson] at the club next season, and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.”
However, Newcastle will have to sell players in order to raise money and follow Premier League spending guidelines. In order to avoid losing Wilson for nothing in a year, the team may try to cash in on him this summer given his age and remaining contract.
Additionally, Howe anticipates losing players from his team this summer. “There will need to be an evacuation. However, he stated, “I don’t believe that there is a particular bracket, brand, or kind of athlete that is associated with that.
Last month, the Newcastle manager told reporters, “There is always a different viewpoint,” in response to questions about Wilson’s future and whether there is a “tension” between what Howe wants and what the team needs. As a manager, I have one goal: to win football games. The team also needs to be financially fair play compliant, viable, and rule-abiding.
