Mass brawl erupts during match as players see red with Wales star watching on
An all-in brawl took place in the French second division as Grenoble and Valence Romans saw red.
The moment occurred in round 10 of the Pro D2 campaign, with just four points separating the two teams after an hour played.
Ex-Dragons fly-half and Wales international Sam Davies started for Grenoble and nailed six kicks from the tee, eventually helping his side to a 35-19 win at home. He could be seen on the edge of the scuffle but didn’t get involved.
It all kicked off when South African front-rower Gareth Milasinovich was heaved into touch by the Valence defending players, agonisingly short of the try line.
Things became slightly heated with some verbal exchanges, but once the shoving started, the situation escalated with the referee seemingly unable to calm it down.
It got to the point that the players were grabbing each other by the scruff of the neck right by the replacements bench and barely a few yards away from the fans.
The shirt-pulling eventually dissipated, and the referee branded two red cards – one to Valence’s Andrea Pontanier and another to Thibaut Martel of Grenoble.
It seemed slightly unusual as the referee had given Martel (blindside, number six) the card instead of Milasinovich (replacement, number 16), with the latter having appeared to instigate the violent sequence.
