Liverpool continued their brilliant start to the campaign with a comeback victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Second half goals from Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and Hugo Bueno (OG) rectified a poor showing in the first period.
The ECHO will be on hand to bring more reaction from the game that saw the Reds briefly top the table.
Meanwhile the fallout from the summer transfer window continues. Spanish media are linking soon to be out of contract Athletic Club attacker Nico Williams with a switch to Anfield, highlighting his suitability for Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Wolves 1-3 Liverpool analysis
After eye-catching displays from Jarell Quansah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah in the second half of Liverpool’s 3-1 victory against Wolves yesterday, Ian Doyle has all the talking points from Molineux, here.
“After the final whistle, the banned Virgil van Dijk, stand on the touchline and hugging every player, reserved a special embrace for Quansah. Certainly, this won’t be the last we see the youngster this season.”

Wolves 1 Liverpool 3: Harvey Elliott in the thick of it
Pure elation in the Liverpool away end yesterday afternoon as Harvey Elliott put the icing on the cake with a fine, low-driven finish. He certainly enjoyed that one!

Liverpool transfer news: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ‘threat’
Liverpool are seen as a threat to Napoli as they seek to tie down star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Georgian, who contributed 31 goals in 43 appearances last season, is currently under contract in Naples until 2027; however, he is currently on a lower wage than team-mates.
Napoli hope to agree a new contract with an increased pay structure in order to fend off Reds interest, with it stated that the winger may be seen as a long-term Mohamed Salah replacement.
Speaking to Sky Italy via Sport Napoli, expert Luca Marchetti said: “His situation places Napoli in the position to resolve the issue as soon as possible. The Georgian finds himself a bit caught in the middle of all this.
“It is necessary to resolve the issue to face the next transfer window with greater confidence. When you have a low salary compared to other top European players, you are more vulnerable because if elsewhere they offer double, it is different than when they offer quadruple. And this doesn’t just apply to Arabia. From a strategic point of view, it is right to renew the contract because it would give Napoli greater strength in negotiations.
“Kvara has a significant salary, but after what he has shown, his salary does not fully reflect his value. Can Napoli offer 2.5 million net? It is the figure from which to start negotiations. If Liverpool arrive and it’s been talked about recently, why sell Momo Salah, what would you do? Salah, at Liverpool, certainly doesn’t earn 3 million… We need to protect Kvara and show him due recognition.”
Liverpool transfer news: Nico Williams enquiry
Liverpool reportedly asked about the availability of Athletic Club Bilbao star Nico Williams during the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, who are reporting that nothing materialised after the Reds asked about the forward. The report goes on to claim that Barcelona have identified the 21-year-old as a target for 2024.
However, despite the speculation, the same report goes on to claim that the Spain international has no intention of leaving the Basque club.
While El Correo are reporting that Williams is interested in extending his Bilbao deal by a couple of years so that he can keep the door open to join a top club.
Liverpool injury news: Nat Phillips update
On loan at Celtic from Liverpool for the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, Nat Phillips made his first appearance on Saturday, however it didn’t go to plan.
He was taken off at half-time during the Scottish champions’ 3-0 win over Dundee, with Brendan Rodgers telling BBC Scotland the defender had just rolled his ankle so was removed as a precaution.
The former Reds boss will be hoping to have Phillips fit enough to feature in Celtic’s first Champions League group stage match against Feyenoord on Tuesday night.
