“Former Aston Villa Player Handed ‘Invaluable’ Role as He Gets England Call-Up”.
England’s squad in Germany this summer as they prepare for Euro 2024. England, placed in Group C, will start their campaign against Serbia on Sunday night, followed by matches against Denmark and Slovenia in the following weeks.
Currently at Manchester United, Heaton played for Villa for two years after signing in 2019 for around £8 million. He was a regular under Dean Smith until a knee ligament injury at Burnley on New Year’s Day 2020 ended his season. After recovering, Heaton became a backup to Emiliano Martinez and then move to Manchester United in the summer of 2021.
Known for his popularity and work with the Professional Footballers’ Association, Heaton will now support Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson, and Aaron Ramsdale. Gareth Southgate expressed his pleasure at Heaton’s inclusion, highlighting his invaluable role in training and his positive influence off the field.
