Frank McAvennie has called on West Ham United to invest in the squad this summer. With Julen Lopetegui replacing David Moyes as head coach, McAvennie believes significant improvements can’t happen without financial backing.
McAvennie, in an exclusive interview with West Ham Zone, emphasized the need for spending. He pointed out that the club has substantial funds, including the money from Rice’s transfer, and they’re paying minimal rent for the stadium. Although financial fair play rules are a concern, McAvennie insists that there’s room for investment in new players. He doubts Lopetegui can improve the team significantly without such investments.
McAvennie highlighted the importance of bringing in quality players to maintain the team’s upward trajectory, which Moyes had started despite unappealing football. He warned that failing to strengthen the squad could lead to a decline and expressed his worry over the lack of new signings so far.
