Former City Player Forecasts ‘Big Things’ for Latest Signing.
Manchester City’s recent acquisition of Claudio Echeverri is managed by River Plate’s current coach, Martin Demichelis.
Demichelis, who was a popular player at the Etihad during Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure, has achieved significant success as a coach, winning the Argentine league with River Plate among three trophies in 2023. As a former defender, he is now responsible for nurturing Echeverri, who was signed by City for an initial £12.5m in January 2024.

Echeverri remains at River Plate following the transfer, with the 18-year-old midfielder expected to stay there for six months before determining his next steps, similar to Julian Alvarez’s path after signing with City in January 2022.
Demichelis is confident in Echeverri’s recent progress and believes that Manchester City is the perfect environment for the young talent to reach his full potential.
“He is passionate about this sport, which is already a great advantage,” Demichelis told the City magazine. “He also possesses excellent individual technique and handles the ball very well.
That’s why City is the ideal team for Claudio. There is no better place for him to continue his development.”
