Newcastle was initially close to signing Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer after weeks of negotiations with his representatives. However, Chelsea intervened, and Adarabioyo is now likely to join them instead.
Newcastle’s focus has now shifted to securing free agent Lloyd Kelly. Eddie Howe, familiar with Kelly from his time at Bournemouth, has made the defender a top target. While Adarabioyo has attracted more interest, Kelly was previously linked to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, meaning Newcastle faces competition for his signature.
A deal for Kelly is reportedly close, with no expected last-minute changes. However, after the Adarabioyo setback, Newcastle fans remain cautious until the deal is finalized.
Following a busy off-season, there is pressure to secure early successes after the disappointments with Adarabioyo and Dougie Freedman, who chose to remain at Crystal Palace.
