Phoenix Suns Fans at Odds Over Drafting LeBron Jr.
Being a Phoenix Suns fan means you know what it’s like to be teased—whether it’s in forums, at games, or with potential off-season signings. Remember LaMarcus Aldridge? The Suns are often rumored to be a landing spot for superstars, but it rarely happens through free agency. Recently, Chris Paul, Bradley Beal, and Kevin Durant ended up in Phoenix, but none through free agency—they all required trades, meaning the Suns had to give up assets.
What the Suns gave up was their future, and in return, they received players who have yet to lead them to a title.
Now, another summer is here with more rumors swirling around the team, this time about LeBron James. His son, Bronny James, played a season at the University of Southern California and declared for the draft, despite an underwhelming season.
Bronny is expected to be a late second-round pick, but his agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, insists he’s a first-round talent who won’t sign a two-way contract or be a G League player.
The Suns are once again in the mix, competing with the Lakers for Bronny. This feels a lot like the Kobe Bryant situation.

There’s no one at pick 22 who will significantly impact the team. A complementary player? Sure, but not someone who will be a major contributor now or in three years. Will Bronny James be that player? Probably not. But his father might be. So, why not take a chance?
Does drafting Bronny guarantee LeBron’s arrival? No. But the drama is part of being a Suns fan. If the Suns draft Bronny and LeBron doesn’t come, it’ll still be a story.
If LeBron does come? The 2024-25 season will be wild.
