Rangers Aim to Cash In on Dutch Attacker This Summer, One Year After Long-Term Signing

Sam Lammers is expected to leave Rangers permanently this summer, as the Glasgow club looks to offload the Dutch player.
Initially, there was speculation that Lammers, signed for £3.5 million by former manager Michael Beale, might get another chance to prove himself at Ibrox. However, he struggled to perform, scoring only two goals while playing out of position before being loaned out by current manager Philippe Clement in January. Criticized for his lack of goal-scoring ability, Lammers found his form again after returning to the Netherlands with FC Utrecht, where he has thrived as a striker, scoring 11 goals and setting an Eredivisie record by scoring in seven consecutive matches. This impressive performance has likely attracted interest from other clubs.
Despite having three years remaining on his contract, Lammers is not expected to be part of Clement’s plans for the summer, with Rangers deciding to sell him. This move, however, could potentially strengthen a Champions League qualifying opponent, as FC Twente is reportedly interested in Lammers, along with Burnley’s Wout Weghorst.
According to Twente Insite, Lammers’ high wages could pose a challenge, but the transfer fee would likely cover what Rangers spent on him last summer. In contrast, former Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to sign, although his upfront cost would be higher. Another loan move to offset Lammers’ wages, estimated between £800,000 and £1 million a year, is considered unlikely.
While Utrecht wants to keep Lammers, his salary exceeds their budget. Additionally, two clubs outside the Netherlands are reportedly interested in him, and Lammers has admitted he hasn’t been in contact with Rangers officials recently.
