According to Fabrizio Romano, Philippe Clement and the Rangers board considered Smith’s signing a professional contract to be a “top priority”. Additionally, it’s said that in order to get close to an agreement with Smith, Rangers have repelled strong transfer interest. The Scotland under-16 player, who has also represented the United States at the young level, is well-regarded at Ibrox and is expected to have a successful career in sports. “Rangers top prospect Alexander Smith is close to agreeing to first professional contract at the club valid until June 2027,” according to transfer analyst Romano.

He qualifies for both the Scotland and USA national teams. “Rangers fought off strong interest from PL and MLS to keep him, top priority for the board and Clement.” Rangers would have received compensation for Smith’s development if he had moved to Arsenal, as was previously predicted. Although clubs apparently made efforts to entice Smith away from the Rangers academy, it now looks as though Smith will sign his first professional contract in Glasgow.
