“Newcastle Chief Amanda Staveley Addresses ‘Controversial’ Australia Trip: Magpies Chairwoman Addresses Speculation and Sets Record Straight on Overseas Visit”

Amanda Stavele acknowledged that Newcastle’s post-season trip to Australia was “controversial” and explained that the decision was made by “management”.

The co-owner suggested that, as a fan, she had reservations about subjecting Eddie Howe’s squad to 48 hours of flying and two friendly games immediately after the season ended.

Newcastle won against Spurs on penalties and then a mostly junior team suffered an 8-0 defeat to the A-League All Stars, earning up to £3m for participating.

Staveley was in Monaco for the F1 Grand Prix as the squad returned from Australia. On Monday, she posted a statement on Instagram addressing “comments” about the trip, including Kieran Trippier’s remark that the demanding journey was “not ideal”.

The trip also faced criticism for its carbon footprint. Staveley stated: “The decision to go was made by management, and I have to support their decisions. Despite being a shareholder, I am primarily a fan. As a fan, I understand this trip was controversial. However, personal feelings aside, revenue-generating trips are vital for a club’s commercial success.”

She also stated: “No one wants a refreshed team more than I do, and we are doing everything possible to support our manager in achieving this.”

Newcastle is planning a pre-season trip to Japan to play two games two weeks before the Premier League season starts in mid-August.

It is believed that Eddie  Howe  prefers to hold a training camp in Europe, possibly at the Adidas HQ in Germany, in the third week of July.
