Everton: ‘Nothing to do with football’ verdict shared after 10-point deduction, legal claim made
The decision from the Premier League to hand Everton a 10-point deduction has caused outrage from newspaper journalist Alan Nixon.
As per BBC Sport (17 November), the Toffees were handed the punishment after being found to have breached financial fair play rules.
The Merseyside outfit have now dropped from 14th place to 19th place in the table as the sanction applies immediately.
The journalist was asked by an X user “Is there not a legal basis for Leeds and Leicester to look for compensation now?”
Nixon replied: “Yeah. Let’s get the lawyers and accountants running it now. Why not? It’s got nothing to do with football any more. Utter crap.”
Everton have been looking really good in recent times, with the Toffees slowly but surely climbing the table, up and away from the relegation zone.
They had been dangerously close to the dreaded bottom three before moving up to 14th thanks to wins against West Ham and Crystal Palace, and a draw with Brighton.
But now it is back to square one for Sean Dyche and his players, who will be absolutely devastated with the latest news.
The club are, however, set to appeal the decision, meaning there is still a small slither of hope around Goodison Park in this regard.
But perhaps fans will be confident of avoiding the drop anyway given their recent rise, along with the massive struggles of the clubs in and around them in the table.
Recently promoted Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town have all failed to find their feet since their arrival in the top flight.
