“Inter Miami Dashes Vancouver Whitecaps Fans’ Dreams: Star Players Absent, but Team Still Seals 2-1 Victory”
Vancouver fans expressed their frustration on social media after Inter Miami announced earlier in the week that Messi, Suarez, and Busquets would not be traveling out West. Miami coach Gerardo (Tata) Martino explained on Friday that the club decided to keep Messi, 36, Suarez, 37, and Busquets, 35, in Florida due to upcoming home games on Wednesday and Saturday next week.
This development was disappointing for the Whitecaps, who were anticipating a record crowd of over 50,000.
“Unfortunately, we cannot control our opponent’s lineup, and it was important for us to inform our fans as soon as possible,” Vancouver CEO Axel Schuster said in a statement on Thursday.
The Whitecaps offered fans a free ticket to a future match, 50% off food and beverages, and free meals for children under 18 during the game.
Inter Miami will face Atlanta United on Wednesday, while Vancouver will play against Sporting Kansas City on the same day.
