“Braves Slugger Ronald Acuña Jr. Set for MRI on Injured Knee, Bracing for Potential Trip to Injured List”
PITTSBURGH — Ronald Acuna Jr. exited the Atlanta Braves’ 8-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first inning on Sunday due to left knee soreness after it seemed to buckle.
In the clubhouse, Acuna wore a knee brace and mentioned he would undergo an MRI Sunday night and anticipates being placed on the 10-day injured list.
“I was very scared because I felt pain immediately,” Acuna said through a translator. “I hope everything turns out well.”
The reigning National League MVP started the game with a double to right-center off Martin Perez. While attempting to steal third with Marcell Ozuna at bat, his left knee appeared to give way. He stayed down for several minutes, pointing to his left leg before walking off on his own.
Acuna, a 26-year-old outfielder, is hitting .250 with four home runs and 15 RBIs in 49 games. Last season, he achieved a career-high .337 average with 41 homers and 106 RBIs.
Adam Duvall moved from left field to right, and Jarred Kelenic replaced Acuna in left field, going 3-for-4 in the game.
