Rangers are being connected to players even before the transfer window opens, giving Philippe Clement the squad he needs to unseat Celtic. The manager has made no secret of the need to improve the team, but finding quality players isn’t always the easiest thing to accomplish.
With an update on a player Rangers were rumored to be seeking, it already appears like one link won’t materialize. Philippe Clement is going to have a difficult summer.

Clement is well aware that scouting players is one thing, but convincing them to join the SPFL is quite another:

Rangers must deal with Clement’s winger situation. Rangers will require a large number of wingers in the upcoming summer. The only players on paper in Philippe Clement’s team are Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright, and Ross McCausland. Not exactly the kind of combination you would trust to win the league.
McCausland shouldn’t be starting as many games as he is, but he has recently demonstrated that he is capable of being more productive. Considering that Clement is attempting to eliminate players who are prone to injury and doesn’t want to see players let their contracts expire, he might be the only one left when the next season begins. Oscar Cortes’s comeback is much anticipated, and discussions about Abdallah Sima’s possibilities of signing a long-term contract are ongoing. It would be wise to hire one or two players similar to Raphael at low cost and with little initial investment.
It may have been a case of one or the other between him and Raphael, since Rangers are reported to have won the race for 19-year-old Relebohile Mofokeng. He most likely won’t be the final player the Rangers pursue this summer but decide not to sign.
