Just in: Bruins Gain From Yet Another Goaltender Interference Scenario
The Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers may have had some uneasy feelings before Game 5 of their series. Goaltender interference was not called.
Florida rallied to win Game 4, but not until Sam Bennett’s goal was disallowed for goaltender interference when Charlie Coyle cross-checked Jeremy Swayman, leaving Boston trailing 3-1 in the series.
Whether it was fate or karma, Game 5 gave the Bruins the complete opposite experience. For the Bruins, Charlie McAvoy’s spectacular shot in the second period broke a 1-1 deadlock. A little earlier in the action, Florida’s head coach Paul Maurice challenged for goaltender interference with Danton Heinen’s stick in the crease.
The review worked in favor of the Bruins this time around, maintaining Boston’s lead goal.
Now, in an attempt to win Game 5, the Bruins are fighting to force a Game 6 in Boston and prolong the series.
