Barcelona want to sign Everton star in January as ‘Extraordinary’ financial claim made

Everton star Amadou Onana is one of several names on Barcelona’s list of midfield targets in January, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Writing on their website (29 December), the Spanish news outlet report that the current La Liga champions want to sign a midfielder after completing the signing of striker Vitor Roque already.

But with FFP restraints causing them issues, only the arrival of “extraordinary income” in January would allow them to make a big signing with Onana joining Aleix Garcia, Arthur Vermeeren, Youssouf Fofana, Andre, Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Bergvall on their shortlist.

“After closing the incorporation of Vitor Roque, FC Barcelona’s next objective for this winter market is the search for a midfielder,” they wrote.

“The sports management sees it necessary to reinforce this position and the profile they are considering is a pivot with a path, although the situation with financial fair play prevents great financial efforts from being made unless extraordinary income arrives.

“While waiting for news, Barça has a long list of midfielders who could fit into the first team and offer immediate performance in this second stretch of the season.”

Phew

Everton have got so much potential within this squad with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, James Garner and Onana that they can really build on in years to come if they keep the squad together.

With the financial situation that the club is in however, it will be really hard to reject offers for our best players if big money offers arrive.

Mid-season it will be hard for clubs to stump up the cash to make it worthwhile for us to sell, and with Barcelona being super broke too it is probably not something we really have to worry about too much for now.

Once we get to the summer it may be a completely different situation though, especially since it’s possible that we won’t be in the Premier League anymore and our ownership situation is still up in the air.

It’s one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks but Toffees fans are probably going to be able to rest easy when it comes to Onana staying put.
