FIJI’S RUGBY REBUILDS: New Coach, New Era After Gollings’ Departure.
Suva, Fiji – The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has announced the appointment of a new head coach for the Fiji Airways Fijian Men’s 7s team, marking a new era for the island nation’s rugby program.
Following the sudden departure of former coach Ben Gollings, the FRU has moved swiftly to appoint a successor, with experienced coach, Gareth Baber, taking the reins.
Baber, a former Wales and Hong Kong coach, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having guided Wales to the World Cup quarterfinals in 2015. His appointment has been hailed as a coup for Fijian rugby, with many praising his ability to develop players and build a winning culture.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gareth to the Fiji Rugby family,” said FRU CEO, John O’Connor. “His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we look to rebuild and take our program to the next level.”
Baber’s first task will be to prepare the team for the upcoming World Rugby Sevens Series, with the squad already assembling for training.
