Mike McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys‘ head coach, may be ready to become a free agent. McCarthy has recruited well-known agent Don Yee to represent him, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Yee’s other clients include Jim Harbaugh, Sean Payton, and Tom Brady.
The timing is probably not coincidental. McCarthy is approaching the final season of his contract with the Dallas Cowboys. It is still possible that he would sign an extension at some time, but team owner Jerry Jones apparently has a special motive for not granting the coach one. The Cowboys have gone 12-5 in the last three seasons under McCarthy, but they have only won one postseason game during that time. A similar outcome in 2024 could lose McCarthy his job. McCarthy, whether he ends up negotiating an extension with Dallas or a new contract with another team, might benefit from the assistance of an experienced agent.
Yee assisted Harbaugh in signing a lucrative contract with the Los Angeles Chargers a few months ago, and Sean Payton did the same with the Denver Broncos last season. McCarthy, 60, hopes to be next, whether in Dallas or elsewhere.
