Tennessee Vols drop video that will get fans fired up to start the week
Tennessee Vols fans probably aren’t feeling too great on Monday morning after watching UT lose to Purdue on Sunday in the Elite Eight.
But the social media team at Tennessee dropped a video on Monday morning that should get fans fired up for the 2024 football season (even though it’s still five months away).
The official Vols football Twitter/X.com account put out a video of running back Dylan Sampson, a key team leader, firing up his teammates before a recent scrimmage in Neyland Stadium.
“Hey man, talk about blessed, man, we blessed to do this,” says Sampson in the video. “We blessed to wake up. We blessed to be standing by each other. We cannot take these opportunities for granted. There’s people that wish they were doing what [we’re] doing. And people that call us crazy for doing what we do. But they don’t understand. Every time we touch this grass, it’s a certain mentality that you got to have. And you can’t just turn it on. We gotta wake up with it. We gotta train with it. We gotta make each other better.”
Sampson will enter the 2024 season as the Vols’ top running back with Jaylen Wright and Jabari Small off to the NFL.
And he’s fully accepting the leadership role that comes with being the No. 1 running back.
Sampson has challenged his teammates to attack the offseason with a purpose. Immediately after the Vols’ win in the Citrus Bowl, Sampson made it clear that he wants to continue playing into mid January next season.
“That’s what this work [is for] going into next season, so we make sure we’re playing at this time next year,” said Sampson after Tennessee’s win against Iowa. “That’s the goal — to be playing at this time next year and going into another game. As soon as we finished this game, I told everybody that it’s time to go to work. Everybody’s ready to go to work. It’s time to jump off the grid and show up in 2024 ready to dominate.”
Elite teams have elite leaders. And Sampson certainly qualifies as one of those elite leaders for the Volunteers.
