Everton: Injury Expert shares fresh Abdoulaye Doucoure update ahead of Wolves clash
According to injury expert Ben Dinnery, sharing an update on the Malian star ahead of Saturday’s game, the 30-year-old is in contention to play a part at Goodison Park but faces a late fitness test for the game with his return status at 25 per cent.
The attacking midfielder was withdrawn at half-time of the 2-0 victory at Burnley (16 December) and missed the defeats to Fulham in the EFL Cup (19 December) and Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in the Premier League (23 December).
Sean Dyche confirmed on 28 December in his press conference that Doucoure is “touch and go” for the game but both Ashley Young and Idrissa Gueye are both ruled out.
However, performances have certainly left a lot of encouragement within the Everton fanbase and Dyche and there is certainly confidence that the Blues won’t be at all affected by the defeats.
The EFL Cup defeat was a massive opportunity missed for Dyche’s men though as they could well have been boosted by a much-needed semi-final date in the competition but it wasn’t to be.
In all three defeats, Dyche has missed Doucoure’s presence and dynamism in the final third but also his goals too, so far registering six goals in the Premier League.
There is an argument to be made that he has been the most important player under Dyche and someone who has really flourished under his leadership.
Having him available against City, Spurs and Fulham would have greatly improved the team’s chances but ahead of Saturday’s pivotal clash against Wolves – a must-win game for Dyche – a possible Doucoure return will be desperately welcomed.
