Everton want to sign Ajax striker Chuba Akpom in last-gasp January transfer push

Everton want to sign Ajax forward Chuba Akpom on loan before the January transfer window close, according to TEAMtalk.

The publication reported on its website on Monday (29 January) that the Toffees are exploring a temporary move for the former Middlesbrough star.

TEAMtalk added that Akpom is open to joining a Premier League club on loan, with Luton Town also showing an interest.

Last-gasp deal?

Akpom is a real talent, with the attacker smashing in 29 goals in all competitions last season for Middlesbrough. That figure earned him a move to Dutch giants Ajax, although he has failed to replicate his form from the Riverside.

The 28-year-old is, however, approaching double figures, having scored nine goals from his 20 Ajax appearances so far.

Everton fans would warmly welcome a new forward, with summer signings Youssef Chermiti and Beto failing to hit the heights expected of them at Goodison Park.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is very much the main man going forward for Sean Dyche, but the manager could have a really talented attack on his hands if he manages to bring Akpom to Merseyside this month.

Time is, however, running out for the Toffees, while it seems that they have a battle on their hands with Luton. The two clubs are already going head-to-head in the Premier League table in terms of avoiding relegation, with Everton in 17th place, one point and one place ahead of the Hatters.
