Everton’s season has been wrought with the feeling that they have deserved more than what they have got, but in the end, that does not mean much.
Deserving to have scored a bucketful but failing to do so, and deserving to win a game of football but losing, is what could well result in the Toffees’ relegation. It’s unreliable.

Sean Dyche will be desperate to start turning these near misses into tangible results, and their trip to Portugal should aid in that pursuit.

Continuing on from Danny Murphy’s bold relegation claim, Jordan sought to jump in and offer his verdict on what he felt the Toffees had deserved from this campaign.
Often rather cynical towards Everton, given the reckless nature of their ownership’s actions, this time around he offered sympathy to a fanbase that has been severely mistreated.

He noted, replying to Jim White’s query as to whether they deserved to stay up: ‘Well the answer to the question is yes they do, because on the field they would be 14th in the league. Off the field, because of the way the clubs been run, they’ve had a six-point sanction.
‘So when you talk about deserving to stay in the league, as a football team they deserve to stay in the league because they’ve got enough points to be able to achieve it.
‘As a football operation and as a football club then they have their challenges. I still think that Everton have enough in the Sean Dyche tank to get them past the line.’
Everton and Sean Dyche need to try something new
Whilst Dyche can keep claiming that his Everton side are doing the right things, getting in the appropriate areas and just falling short at the final hurdle, few can argue with their current run.
Having failed to win in their last 11 Premier League games, the proof is there for all to see.
They have been woefully unlucky, and that shows up in the underlying figures. But how long can the former Burnley man keep suggesting that before he makes a change?
Whether it be deploying someone in a new, surprise role, or handing an unproven forward some minutes from the academy, this is a side in desperate need of something to freshen them up.
Hopefully, this trip away will do the trick, but it couldn’t hurt to ease his stubbornness and experiment every once in a while.
