Everton: ‘Disastrous’ Dele Alli scenario outlined at Goodison Park as Tottenham talks open
Everton have reopened talks with Tottenham regarding a deal for Dele Alli in order to avoid a “disastrous” scenario, according to The Express.
The Toffees will have to pay their fellow Premier League club £10million should the English midfielder make another seven appearances.
However, it is claimed that Spurs are open to a change in terms so Everton have more of an incentive to play Dele once he is back from injury.
The report [Daily Express, 3 March] read: “Should Alli reach 20 appearances for Everton before the end of his contract the Toffees will have to fork out £10m, which could be disastrous for the already cash-stretched Merseyside club.
“The Toffees have faced a points deduction for financial fair play breaches already this year, and are under threat of another.
“With the contract’s current terms disincentivising Everton from playing Alli, Tottenham are now understood to be chasing a change that would force them to pay regardless.
“Everton turned down a similar proposal before his injury last year, but negotiations between the two clubs are now open again. The Toffees are understood to be eager to re-sign the attacking midfielder and reach a new agreement with Spurs.”

Everton will understandably not be comfortable handing £10m over to Tottenham and Dele will therefore not make it to 20 appearances.

That is not fair on the 27-year-old, who will no doubt just want to play football after putting his injury and personal issues behind him.
It is therefore in the best interest of Everton and Tottenham to come to a new agreement, or for the player to simply move on in the summer.
Dele has yet to actually cost the Toffees anything other than his wages, which is a major blow for Spurs as they were expecting up to £40m.
Everton would of course rather put that money towards signing another player should the 777 Partners takeover go through, with Dele’s best days now unfortunately behind him.
If talks are indeed under way between the Toffees and Spurs, though, it is at least a positive step towards Dele getting the chance to kickstart his career.
