Everton: Agent makes Farhad Moshiri claim amid Todd Boehly Chelsea takeover at
Chelsea have been like “Everton on speed” under Todd Boehly since the American’s takeover at Stamford Bridge, an agent has claimed.
The Times reported via their website on 24 February that a figure close to deals done by the London side since Clearlake Capital took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022 compared the club to the Toffees under Farhad Moshiri.
Everton are currently awaiting the verdict of their appeal against a 10-point deduction for the first of two profit and sustainability charges from the Premier League, partly as a result of spending under the outgoing owner, while Chelsea have infamously spent more than £1billion on transfers in less than two years [Telegraph, 23 September] but appear to have gone backwards on the pitch.
The Times report said: “An agent close to deals during that period described it being ‘like [Farhad] Moshiri’s Everton on speed’.
“A US lawyer involved in previous American takeovers of English teams observed ‘every new American owner of a Premier League club has made missteps at first and that usually the problem is outsourcing key decisions through lack of confidence about an alien sport’.
Whereas Boehly and Eghbali’s issue was the opposite. ‘They came in like Masters of the Universe, thinking they knew better right off the bat.’”

The hope at Everton is that Moshiri’s legacy will ultimately be the new stadium in the long-term, assuming the club makes it through the extensive turbulence that his era has ultimately descended into.
But currently it is set to be remembered for years of overspending for diminishing returns, followed by a period of austerity as the club repeatedly battled relegation against a backdrop of financial problems.
