Everton are anxiously waiting to receive the final verdict from the Premier League over the appeal against the point deduction.
The Toffees were docked ten points for breaching the financial fair play rules, and there have been suggestions that they could face further punishment.
Everton did appeal against the point deduction, which many felt that it was harsh. Jamie Carragher has said that he expects the Toffees to receive some sort of sanction, but he thinks they will get back some points which could help them get out of the relegation battle.
The Toffees are searching for their first win this year and they have gone eight league games without a win. They have been very poor recently, and while Myers doesn’t want to use it as an excuse, he says the pending decision has affected Everton and other clubs.
“The appeals commission really need to come to a decision, not only for Everton’s sake but for a number of clubs and their fans. Teams cannot keep playing, not knowing where they stand in the league, it’s not an excuse for poor performance but it is affecting all concerned,” wrote Myers on X.
Anxious moments for Everton
James Tarkowski said after the game against Crystal Palace that everyone at the club doesn’t have a clue what the verdict will be – whether they will get back some points or whether further points will be deducted.
Everton deserve to know the status of appeal and it will be unfair if the decision comes in the closing stages of the season. According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Toffees are expected to learn their fate over the next 48 hours.
When the verdict first came out, everyone felt that it was a really harsh decision, and there was no clarification as to how they came to this decision to deduct ten points. In all probability, the Toffees could get some points back, but it’s not guaranteed yet.
