Video shows Maxwel Cornet looking electric in West Ham training and he must start against Arsenal

Behind the scenes video shows Maxwel Cornet looking electric in West Ham training and he must start against Arsenal.

What must Maxwel Cornet have been thinking when Ben Johnson lined up as a winger ahead of him in West Ham’s starting XI at Man United.

With Lucas Paqueta injured and both Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals departing, Cornet must have thought his long-awaited Hammers chance had finally arrived.

Instead West Ham’s back-up full-back was deployed as a winger and Cornet had to make do with a place on the bench.

Cornet’s face simply has not fit at West Ham under David Moyes.

The £17.5m signing from Burnley has made just two Premier League starts for the Hammers in 19 months.

He was linked with moves to Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest in January.

But he has remained with the Hammers.

To rub salt in the wound for Cornet, Moyes has bemoaned his lack of left-sided attacking options. And he admitted he tried but failed to sign a player in that position in January.

The Scot has also complained about the lack of balance to his side as a result.

Earlier this week a talkSPORT reporter slammed Moyes for his treatment of Cornet.

Cornet electric in training – he must start vs Arsenal
It’s a big slap in the face for Cornet – who has never been given a fair crack of the whip at West Ham.

That could – and should – be about to change, though, after footage emerged from behind the scenes.

West Ham have posted a video on YouTube from a high intensity training session ahead of the Gunners clash.

And Cornet genuinely stands out as one of the sharpest players on display. He looks focused, serious about his training and is involved in some razor sharp moves which he finishes off in style.

Moyes cannot moan about having no left-sided options when Cornet is performing like this in training.

Johnson did not let anyone down when he was used on the wing. In fact he was one of West Ham’s best players on the day and has been over the last month.

Moyes can’t moan about lack of left-sided options and not give Cornet a chance
But there was a reason Man United let him see so much of the ball, because they knew he was not a serious attacking threat.

Cornet deserves a shot at trying to salvage his West Ham career.

Just take a look at the video below and it’s clear to see he is ready.

And he possesses that key attribute, especially for games against top sides such as Arsenal – PACE.

Ask yourself this, who would you rather defend against as a full-back, Cornet or Johnson? Exactly.

It must also be remembered Cornet scored on his last start up at Sheffield United too.

Get him in the side and let’s see what he can do. Having failed to win a single game so far this year, what have we got to lose?
