Crystal Palace chiefs ‘furious’ as devastating new Michael Olise blow revealed

Crystal Palace chiefs have been left furious after Michael Olise re-aggravated his hamstring injury in the 4-1 defeat against Brighton on Saturday (3 February), sources have told Football Insider.

High-ranking club officials believe manager Roy Hodgson and his staff brought the Palace star man, 22-year-old back into the fold too early.

The France Under-21 international was introduced at half-time but was forced off just minutes later after re-aggravating a hamstring issue.

Olise missed the first 13 games of the 2023-24 campaign with the problem and also sat out three games from December to January.

The 22-year-old’s new injury is a massive blow for Hodgson and Palace – who now face a battle to stay in the Premier League.

It is believed Olise is now facing months on the sidelines in a new devastating blow to the Eagles’ season.

Hodgson has claimed the player himself and medical staff had assured him the winger was ready to play some minutes as a substitute.

He had notched six goals and three assists in 11 Premier League games before this new setback.

Crystal Palace sit 14th in the table but are just five points clear of the bottom three with 15 games remaining.

Olise’s injury and the subsequent fall-out is set against a backdrop of uncertainty surrounding Hodgson’s job at Selhurst Park.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (7 February) that Palace want to sack the veteran boss but the club’s preferred replacement Steve Cooper is not willing to take the job mid-season.

The Croydon club are next in action against Chelsea next Monday (12 February).
