‘Outstanding’ Tottenham player now expected to return to Hotspur Way in next 48 hours

On the back of a disappointing late draw at Everton, Tottenham Hotspur will hope for a return to winning ways against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently fifth in the Premier League table, with eyes on Aston Villa in fourth and little reason to check their shoulders.

And with Micky van de Ven and James Maddison now back fit and fully integrated into the first eleven, there’s definitely reason for optimism.

Spurs will also soon enjoy the return of captain Son Heung-min who plays in South Korea’s semi-final against Jordan tomorrow.

That being said, a different Tottenham player will now have some hope of featuring against Brighton this weekend.

Yves Bissouma has now concluded his time at AFCON with Mali after losing to Ivory Coast 2-1 in Saturday’s quarter final.

According to The Standard, Bissouma will report back to Hotspur Way in the next 48 hours when he will undergo a routine assessment.

The report also details that Bissouma was suffering with malaria during AFCON, but is now thought to be free of the disease.

Bissouma has now served his red card suspension that he received before he left for AFCON.

And if the midfielder is deemed fit then he could be in this weekend’s squad.

That would obviously be a huge boost to Tottenham, who will hope to return to winning ways when welcoming Brighton.

It’s perhaps been understated how much Bissouma has been missed whilst he’s been away – it almost feels as if his red cards have tarnished his excellent start.

But in truth, Bissouma has been ‘outstanding’ in the middle for Spurs in their early months under Postecoglou, and will continue to do so.

Of course, with a wealth of options that the Spurs manager has rarely enjoyed, it will be interesting to see who is considered to be in the strongest XI.

It almost feels impossible for any one Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur or Bissouma to miss out when fully fit, but the reality is that one will.

It’s a very positive problem to have, and Postecoglou will probably be pragmatic on a game by game basis.

That being said, one Spurs player is now thriving whilst being a key player out on loan.
