Rio Ferdinand was left stunned by brother Anton’s suggestion that Tomas Soucek should not be a regular starter for West Ham.
Speaking on the Vibe with Five podcast [4 February, 9m 15s], West Ham fan Anton said United have now “moved on” from selecting Soucek.
The former Hammers defender instead picked Kalvin Phillips, Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse as his midfield three.
In response to that, Rio said: “I can’t believe that. You’ve got the level below the next Marouane Fellaini [in Soucek].”

Rio was in disbelief as he reckons Soucek is one of the biggest sources of goals at West Ham, which is of course true.
The Czech Republic international has eight goals in all competitions this season, while also chipping in with one assist.
However, as Anton points out, United now have Manchester City loanee Phillips on their books and he must start when fully fit.
Phillips has made an error in each of his first two appearances for the Hammers, most recently against Manchester United, but hopefully he irons those out and becomes a success.

Ward-Prowse and Alvarez, meanwhile, are two of the first names on the team sheet.
What this does show is that, despite a downturn in form, David Moyes has some real depth now in terms of central midfield options.
With more options comes more pressure, though, and any more defeats such as the one at Old Trafford will only lead to further frustration among the fanbase.
