Everton made a late loan approach to attempt to secure the services of Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder, according to the Athletic.
The news outlet claims on 2 January that the interest was rebuffed by the Seagulls who wanted to keep the Poland international at the Amex Stadium.
He missed the best part of the last 20 months with serious knee damage and has thus not featured as much recently under Roberto De Zerbi.
The report reads: “Poland international Moder, just a handful of outings into his comeback from the best part of 20 months out with serious knee damage, has been used as a wide midfielder by De Zerbi and former head coach Graham Potter. Moder attracted loan interest from Everton in the latter stages of the window, but that was rebuffed.”
Not worth it?
While Moder is a talented midfielder, his recent injury could affect his performance and durability on the field.
Everton’s midfield is already performing well with James Garner, Amadou Onana and Abdoulaye Doucoure delivering solid performances.
With these players excelling, Moder might have struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.
Additionally, integrating the 24-year-old into the team could pose challenges, considering his extended absence from competitive play and the adjustment period he might need to regain match fitness and form.
Despite his potential, the risk of reinjury or a slower adaptation to Everton’s style of play could hinder the Polish midfielder’s immediate impact and make him a less attractive option compared to other available players without such injury concerns.
While fans would’ve liked a new face through the door in the final hours, it’s fine that it wasn’t the Brighton man.
