Bruce Grobbelaar drops an interesting transfer message about Celtic target Caoimhin Kelleher

Bruce Grobbelaar has suggested that Liverpool should look to sell or loan Celtic transfer target, Caoimhin Kelleher.

The former Premier League goalkeeper hailed Caoimhin Kelleher as a ‘beautiful’ and ‘fantastic’ shot-stopper.

There have been mixed reports about Brendan Rodgers and Celtic wanting to bring in Caoimhin Kelleher ahead of the summer.

Number one Joe Hart is out of contract in July, and given that he is 36, then a long-term option needs to be looked at.

According to Bruce Grobbelaar, for Caoimhin Kelleher to progress in his career, then he needs the minutes, which he isn’t going to get in front of ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’ in Alisson Becker, as he told RTE.

That’s why he suggested the Republic of Ireland star be sold, with a buy-back clause in the contract for Liverpool, or even loan him out.

The latter scenario would certainly suit Celtic and it’s something the club still need to enquire about when they seriously search for that goalkeeper in the summer.

Caoimhin Kelleher might be number two at Anfield, but he is earning the plaudits for what he is doing when he gets the chance.

Should Celtic push to sign Caoimhin Kelleher?

“We’ve got a beautiful goalkeeper in Caoimhín Kelleher,” said Grobbelaar.

“When the manager comes out and says we’ve got the best goalkeeper in the world and the second best goalkeeper here – talking about Caoimhín – it’s a great accolade.

“But yes, from the Irish point of view, they’d rather have him play more games and we are playing him in some of the cup games.

“But if there was a little thing that you could do to make him much better than he is, is to give him games. Maybe it could be that Liverpool could put him out on loan or sell to him a club with a buy-back clause and see if Alisson stays.

“If Alisson stays then he’s getting game-time and as soon as Alisson leaves, you get the buy-back clause and he comes straight back. That’s the only way that I would have a look at it because he’s such a fantastic goalkeeper.”

Will Joe Hart stay at Celtic?

There is every chance that the Englishman stays on board, whilst also adding another long-term or younger shot-stopper to the squad.

When it comes to experience, having a strong leader and character around the dressing room. This is something the club should consider.

The only issue here is that would Hart accept being number two if that role was offered to him.
