Tottenham to successfully hijack Barcelona deal for Lucas Bergvall on Deadline Day
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent six years as a senior scout at Spurs and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent eight years on Everton’s recruitment team and 11 years scouting at Aston Villa across two different spells.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Tottenham “are as big as Barcelona” with the North London side set to rival the La Liga club for Lucas Bergvall’s signature.
Bergvall is currently playing his football with Djurgårdens IF, and his eye-catching performances have caught the attention of some of Europe’s elite.
At the age of 17, he has already broken into the Sweden national team, making his debut for his nation on 12 January 2024.
As per Fabrizio Romano via X (31 January), Barcelona are “confident” of wrapping up a deal for the wonderkid, although Tottenham have made an “important proposal” as they look to hijack the move.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “Spurs have missed out on four or five young players and won’t want to miss out again, but I am not sure how they can offer a kid playing in Sweden a big role at the club.
“Especially when they have their full team available, it is hard to see a 17-year-old getting into that side.
“Having said that, I am all for bringing in foreign talent, as long as it suits the club and suits the player. Tottenham is a great place to develop, they have a fantastic stadium and fantastic training facilities.
“There is no reason why Tottenham shouldn’t rival Barcelona for his signature because at this moment in time, Spurs are as big as Barcelona, maybe not in name but certainly as a club.
“This one looks as if it will go down to the wire.”
