David Moyes gets great news as secret Liverpool clause is leaked which puts an end to West Ham rumours

It was not so long ago that David Moyes was facing an uncertain future at West Ham.

Some Hammers fans were calling for a parting of the ways and the appointment of a more “modern and progressive” manager.

And a former Liverpool star turning heads at Bayer Leverkusen was heavily linked as a potential replacement as reports claimed West Ham were considering parting ways with the Scot.

West Ham beat Liverpool to the appointment of German technical director Tim Steidten in the summer.

In the weeks after his arrival it was claimed by a source inside West Ham that Steidten’s appointment could see the club replace Moyes with Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso next summer.

West Ham had already been heavily linked with Alonso – as reported here on Hammers News.

The former Liverpool midfield pass master’s contract was up next summer – which is when Moyes’ own current West Ham deal also expires.

But he signed a two-year extension, which simultaneously put paid to talk he was also being eyed by his old club Liverpool as a successor to Jurgen Klopp.

Reports in Germany claimed Alonso had only signed the extension so Leverkusen could get compensation for the ex Reds hero if the likes of West Ham do come knocking.

According to BILD – as also reported by Get German Football News – Alonso has an agreement in his contract that he can leave if any of Liverpool, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich make a move for him next summer.

That should put any speculation West Ham could look to replace Moyes with the Spaniard well and truly to bed.

Given Klopp has signed a new deal until 2026 – and has impressively rebuilt Liverpool over the summer – a return to Anfield looks just as unlikely.

As things stand Real Madrid look the most likely destination for the man Steidten helped appoint with Carlo Ancelotti reportedly set to take over Brazil.

This will be welcome news for Moyes who continues to work wonders at West Ham.

So much so pundit Simon Jordan has today hit out at West Ham’s owners for failing to hand Moyes a new long-term deal by now.
