‘Very exciting’… Journalist says national media has been completely shocked by 23-year-old Celtic player

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has been hoovering up the headlines in Scotland for his performances not only domestically, but in the Champions League.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been one of Celtic’s standout players this season under Brendan Rodgers and it seems that it’s not just in Scotland where he is dominating the headlines.

According to Danish journalist, Nicklas Dehn, O’Riley is causing quite the stir back in Denmark and he has even been tipped to make the Euro 2024 squad this summer.

Dehn said [Scottish Football Podcast], “There’s a lot of focus on him because we’re not used to these players having been raised in other countries but having Danish roots being put on the Danish national team.

“And a lot of times I think that’s very exciting. He’s been getting a lot of press, a lot of focus when he’s been with the Danish national team.

“And he was only a guy that was being sort of looked to a couple of years back, and there’s not been a lot of focus from the Danish football fans towards Scotland.

“So many hadn’t noticed him and was surprised when suddenly there was a guy running around in Celtic that could be in the Danish national team.
