Unbelievable:Super League is changing plenty of rules ahead of the 2024 season and moving forward.
This will lead to more six agains and penalties moving forward and is not where the new rules end. Of course, the most controversial rule changes were around tackle height.
This comes in the wake of the lawsuit against the RFL from some ex-players such as Nick Fozzard. This has raised insurance prices for the sport but has also led to a greater awareness around the importance of head injuries.
This culminated in a trial in academy games of new rules around tackle height lowering the legal tackle height leading to an increasing number of penalties in games.
This has generated a lot of headlines which have overshadowed the news that the club are introducing a new quota rule.
Quota spots are vital for Super League clubs as it allows clubs to sign the biggest names from down under from the NRL.
However, there has been a stumbling block when clubs have tried to sign young stars from down under because of visa issues but those rules have been changed allowing teams to sign players from the NSW Cup and the Queensland Cup.
Wakefield Trinity were the first team to exploit this new rule but there are two clubs in Super League who are in a position to make history and make this first ever signing of this kind.
One of these teams is the Warrington Wolves who have a quota spot open after the release of Sam Kasiano. Now with a quota spot open they could use it to make this ground breaking transfer.
Likewise, since Salford Red Devils lost Ken Sio they have a quota spot open. They have been in the market for a winger and prop for the new season and could make history to make this signing.
