Fabrizio Romano shares fresh Abdoulaye Doucoure transfer admission in new Everton January report
Fabrizio Romano has admitted that there is a possibility that Everton will lose one of Abdoulaye Doucoure or Amadou Onana during the January transfer window.
Reports emerged that Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq had approached both the Toffees and Doucoure’s camp over a potential January switch, as Steven Gerrard looks to replace Jordan Henderson following his move to Ajax [Fabrizio Romano, 20 January].

However, the Italian journalist has confirmed that the Toffees are yet to receive an official bid for the 31-year-old this month but did suggest that could change in the final days of the January window.
As quoted by Give Me Sport (24 January) he said: “Unfortunately for Everton, I think that there is a possibility because if a really important proposal comes in, one of these two players could leave. At the moment there is still no official bid.
“Al-Ettifaq approached Everton with a formal approach to tell them about their interest in Doucoure. But at the moment, still no formal bid and also they approached the agent of the player.
“So let’s see what’s going to be the next step in this story.”

The poor financial situation at Goodison Park currently, means that Everton are almost sitting ducks in the transfer market, as teams around the world know that the Toffees are for sale if they can match their asking price.
While Doucoure is a crucial member of Sean Dyche’s side, his situation is no different and should Al-Ettifaq submit a bid for the 31-year-old, it will be hard for the Toffees to turn it down, especially considering the Mali midfielder’s age.
Everton fans will likely want to keep a close eye on this situation between now and the end of the campaign as Romano’s update suggests that this deal could change and advance at the drop of a hat.
Hopefully, Al-Etifaq’s interest won’t go any further than initial contact and Doucoure will remain an Everton player at least until the end of the season as he still has a crucial role to play in the fight against relegation from the Premier League.
