Everton want to sign Ajax ace Carlos Forbs, Burnley and Nottingham Forest have held transfer talks
Everton want to sign Ajax starlet Carlos Forbs before the January transfer window closes after he was told he could leave, according to HITC.
Writing on their website (25 January), the news outlet report that the former Manchester City winger has been told he can leave the Amsterdam club less than six months after joining.
Forbs, formerly known as Carlos Borges, was set to sign for West Ham in the summer before Ajax hijacked the deal but it hasn’t worked out and he is now allowed to leave with Burnley and Nottingham Forest having already held talks about bringing him back to England.
“HITC Football understands that Ajax have informed striker Carlos Forbs that he can leave the club this January transfer window,” they wrote.
“Sources have confirmed to HITC Football that multiple Premier League clubs are interested in bringing the Portuguese international to the club with less than a week remaining before the window slams shut.
“Burnley and Nottingham Forest have both held talks about a deal, whilst HITC also understands Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and West Ham United are keeping tabs on the situation of the 19-year-old.”
Forbs was a spectacular talent in youth football for Man City, with talent scout Jacek Kulig labelling him as “simply phenomenal” in the past.
That talent, skill and ability doesn’t disappear overnight or in just six short months, but he has become a bit of a victim of circumstance in Amsterdam because of their poor start to the season.
He has got fantastic quality and with rumours circling about the future of Arnaut Danjuma, who could be set to leave his loan deal early and head to Lyon, there is potential for Forbs to come in as the direct replacement.
If Everton are to bring him in a loan deal would likely be their best option because financially they’re not in a good position but also considering his performances this season there is no guarantee that he would hit the ground running either.
It’s one to pay attention to for sure with the window closing down and clubs looking for solutions.
