Kalvin Phillips is set to join West Ham on loan with an option to buy from Manchester City after Juventus decided against signing the English midfielder.

Phillips had been linked with a move to Juventus at the beginning of the January transfer window, but talks between the Old Lady and Manchester City never reached an advanced stage.

Cristiano Giuntoli had travelled to London in December to talk to both City and Tottenham for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, but Allegri decided against signing a new midfielder in the winter transfer window.

Football Italia understands Allegri was not convinced about signing a new player on loan and opted to keep the same group of players for the second part of the campaign.

The Serie A giants are the current table leaders in Italy, with a one-point lead over Inter, who have a game in hand.

Allegri and Juventus have often highlighted how the team’s spirit at Continassa is helping them gain consistent results this season, so the coach didn’t want to alter the team and have the pressure of including a new player in the squad, especially somebody like Phillips who expects regular playing time ahead of the Euros.
