“Don Goodman Fires Back at ‘Immature’ Ipswich Town Figure Over Sky Sports Comments: ‘He’s Got Me on His Mind'”
After Ipswich Town’s Luke Woolfenden made fun of him live on Sky during the team’s promotion parade, Sky Sports analyst Don Goodman responded.
The 25-year-old defender stated, “Listen, I’ll have to sit for six weeks now and listen to Don Goodman tell us we’re not good enough you know, to do anything in the Prem, like he did in the Champ,” during an interview conducted during the team’s open top bus parade. Don Goodman, don’t worry about it. It seems like we’re still going to finish mid-table.”
Evidently taken aback by these remarks, EFL commentator Goodman has responded to the Tractor Boys defender.
Don Goodman stated that he thinks the Ipswich Town defender has a problem with him in the wake of Luke Woolfenden’s remarks, despite the fact that he gets along well with other members of the team.
“Paul Gilmore, the Sky reporter, called me to warn that it (player jibes) happened and had gone out unedited on Sky News (YouTube channel) when it wasn’t supposed to,” the Sky Sports analyst claimed in an interview with Football League World via OLBG. As much as I appreciated Paul’s kindness, I must admit that I was taken aback.
Ipswich Town has won me over with every word since they defeated Sunderland on the first day of play and until their promotion was officially announced. Upon shaking hands with Kieran McKenna, Sam Morsy, Wes Burns, and Leif Davies before kickoff on Saturday, I was taken aback.
“It appears that Luke Woolfenden is more troubled by me than by anyone else at the club. Regretfully, Luke has shown signs of immaturity. I will handle this maturely.”
Rather than criticising Woolfenden for not celebrating with those around him, Goodman has wished Woolfenden and the club well in advance of their Premier League season.
“I don’t know what Luke has seen or heard, but I feel really sad that he’s thinking about me on the biggest and best day of his football career,” the man stated. Celebrate your accomplishment with your loved ones; you’ve just accomplished the most amazing thing. I’ve been praising them all season long, so it saddens me that Luke is thinking about me.
“I hope Luke and Ipswich have a successful Premier League season next year. Everyone says promoted teams can’t compete, therefore I hope, like I do with every club from the Championship, that they hoist the flag and perform incredibly well. They can, of course.”
Ipswich Town has a lot of energy and confidence after winning two straight promotions, but they shouldn’t underestimate the difficulty of the job at hand.
Many of Ipswich Town’s players were participating in League One football just over a year ago, thus there has been a significant jump from the third division to the top division of English football.
It’s evident that the Tractor Boys will need to tighten up at the back end of the pitch if they want to stay in the Premier League. They gave up 57 goals in the Championship, which is still the seventh-best record in the competition, but it’s more than teams like Millwall and Sunderland who finished in the bottom half of the standings.
But Ipswich have a fantastic young manager in Kieran McKenna, and if they can bring in some quality players, there’s no reason why Woolfenden and his teammates can’t shock everyone and make it into the Premier League.
