West Ham United have cash to play with in January transfer window after Declan Rice twist – Finance Expert

Dan Plumley has insisted that West Ham United now have upfront cash to play with after a payday loan was revealed to access some of the Declan Rice transfer money early.
The Times reported on 3 January that the Hammers agreed a loan with Barclays to receive £30million of the mega fee 10 months early at the London Stadium.
The finance expert admitted that the pros outweigh the cons for West Ham, with the interest attached not exactly crippling for a club of their wealth.
“Again, it’s the reality of football club transfers,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“We’ve seen other clubs do it against TV broadcasting payments and we have to remember that money into the club, a lot of that comes from season ticket sales and the broadcasting payments in the early part of the season.
“So, it’s not like they have cash coming in every single day like other businesses do, so we’ve seen a lot of clubs do this. The benefits of this, obviously with West Ham you have the cash upfront to play with which you wouldn’t have had if you were waiting on it.
“It’s relatively low risk for West Ham in the sense that there will be an interest fee attached to the loan, but it’s not necessarily a crippling interest rate given the overall finance of the club and being in the Premier League and in West Ham’s case Europe and the actual transfer of Declan Rice itself.
“You know you’re good for the money to go out and secure that lending, and it gives you the cash to play with upfront if you want to invest back into the transfer market or otherwise.
“On a kind of scale, the pros outweigh the cons, there’s always a slight risk in all that, but in West Ham’s case, it’s relatively low risk.”
