Kawhi Leonard Reacts to Gregg Popovich Telling Spurs Fans to Stop Booing
LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard shared his thoughts on Popovich’s message

Midway through the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game vs. the San Antonio Spurs, LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was receiving heavy boos while at the free throw line. This is something he has heard from Spurs fans since leaving the organization, but during this instance Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich took the public address microphone and told the fans to stop.
During his on-court interview after the win, Leonard was asked about this moment, and said, “I was focused. I didn’t know if it was him or not. I was at the free throw line, but they’re a very classy organization, and I’m pretty sure he wants to keep it that way.”
This is something Leonard has dealt with each time he has played in San Antonio since the trade that sent him to the Toronto Raptors, and it’s a situation that people have mixed feelings on. While there’s some who site the complicated ending to Leonard’s time in San Antonio when defending their fanbase for booing, there’s others who argue his Finals MVP in 2014 should keep fans from booing. Different people feel different ways, but it’s clear where Popovich stands.
While Leonard’s departure from San Antonio was complicated, he still has a positive relationship with his former head coach, which was evident by this moment. Leonard and Popovich also shared a moment after the game.
