Premier League rivals take some glee in Everton’s second PSR charge
A clutch of rival teams have taken some glee in the Premier League charging Everton with a second breach of profit and sustainability rules (PSR). That is according to Kaveh Solhekol, who has told Sky Sports News that the reaction to the charge among clubs has been mixed.
Some rival sides have displayed a degree of joy in Everton potentially facing a second points deduction as it can complicate their efforts to avoid relegation. But other teams have shown sympathy for Everton and Nottingham Forest as both teams confirmed they were in breach.

Teams have shown Everton the most sympathy as an independent commission docked them 10 points in November. The Premier League initially charged the Toffees in March 2023 after they overspent the £105m PSR limit by £19.5m between the 2019/20 and 2021/22 seasons.
It remains to be seen how much Everton overspent the PSR limit between the 2020/21 and 2022/23 seasons. The Goodison Park outfit are also still awaiting the verdict of their appeal over their 10-point deduction. An appeals board will issue its ruling in the current campaign.

777 Partners remain committed to their takeover of Everton
Miami-based investment company 777 Partners remain committed to a takeover of Everton despite the Premier League’s second charge of breaching PSR. The Liverpool Echo notes the potential for a second points deduction will not derail the US group’s interest in a purchase.

777 Partners intend to press ahead with their quest to buy the 94.1% majority stake held by Farhad Moshiri. They agreed to purchase the shares back in September and are still waiting for the Premier League’s approval. But the potential PSR breaches were also factored into it.
The final price that 777 Partners will pay Moshiri once (or if) the Premier League approves a takeover will depend on several factors including whatever punishments Everton receive for breaching PSR. They will also only view their charges as one as they affect the same season.

Jamie Carragher calls Farhad Moshiri ‘deluded’ over his Everton dream

Jamie Carragher believes Moshiri is ‘deluded’ if the British-Iranian businessman believes his long-term legacy at Everton is building their new Bramley-Moor Dock stadium instead of the financial mess the Blues face. The club are due to leave Goodison after the 2024/25 season.
The Liverpool legend even feels Moshiri is one of English football’s ‘worst-ever owners’ with Everton facing a second points deduction. He has held shares in the Merseyside outfit since February 2016 after buying an initial 49.9% stake before increasing his ownership to 94.1%.
Everton produced their best season of Moshiri’s stewardship in 2016/17 when they finished seventh in the Premier League table. But the Blues have only finished in the top half once in the past four seasons. The Toffees are also facing a third-straight relegation fight this term.
So, after the Premier League also charged Everton with a second breach of PSR on Monday, Carragher has torn into Moshiri’s tattered Toffees legacy. He strongly bemoans the situation at Goodison Park with the Blues relying on rather unconvincing US investment to stay afloat.
Carragher told The Telegraph: “That is what it has come to at Goodison Park. A US firm the fans do not really trust, and the Premier League is not yet convinced would pass its owner’s test, is the only option on the table.
“Without the cash injection from 777 which is keeping the club going, Everton’s plight could be more perilous.
“Moshiri said he hopes his reign will be remembered for the new stadium on the docks. He is deluded if he thinks that will be the lingering memory. Instead, his name will join the rogues gallery of English football’s worst-ever owners.”
