The Pittsburgh Steelers rookie took a big hit in the Wild Card game.

ORCHARD PARK — The Pittsburgh Steelers defense took a blow in their first playoff game, with cornerback Joey Porter Jr. suffering a head injury in the second half against the Buffalo Bills.

Porter went down after taking a hit from a Bills offensive lineman on a pass in the third quarter. After hitting the turf, Porter was in visible pain while rolling around. He was able to walk off under his own power after being evaluated on the field.

Porter was taken to the medical tent, where trainers continued to look at him. He was then escorted to the locker room.

Without Porter, the Steelers will turn to Patrick Peterson and Levi Wallace at cornerback, with James Pierre as their only backup outside option. Chandon Sullivan, who primarily plays in the slot, also has experience playing on the outside.

All Steelers will continue to provide updates to Porter’s injury as more information becomes available.
