Steelers Suspended Safety Returns for Playoffs
The suspended Pittsburgh Steelers safety will return to the team this week.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will get help in the secondary in the wildcard round of the playoffs. After finishing his regular season suspension, Damontae Kazee is set to return to the team as they prepare for the Buffalo Bills in the opening round of the postseason.
Kazee was suspended following his ejection for the team’s Week 15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts for an unnecessary roughness hit on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. He was initially suspended for the remainder of the regular season and the postseason, but after appealing the decision, it was reduced to just the regular season.
The veteran safety started nine of his 14 games this season, recording 61 tackles, two interceptions, three pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.
Kazee will have three days of practice to get accustomed to the defense after missing the last three games. The Steelers could get both of their starters back this week with Minkah Fitzpatrick vowing to return from his knee injury in the playoffs as well.
Pittsburgh has been utilizing Patrick Peterson and practice squad member Eric Rowe as their starter in Kazee’s and Fitzpatrick’s absence. Both will probably continue to contribute at the position even with the two starters returning.
